FDA Approves Medtronic Pain Relief Device [Source: Medtronic, Inc. ]
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Medtronic’s new rechargeable neurostimulation system, RestoreULTRA.

The RestoreULTRA neurostimulator is the smallest and thinnest 16-electrode device on the market and is designed to treat chronic back and leg pain. Neurostimulation works via an implantable medical device that delivers electrical pulses to the epidural space. In turn, these pulses block pain signals traveling through the nervous system and prevent them from reaching the brain. According to Medtronic, patients who use medium stimulation settings can go at least two weeks before needing to recharge the device. The patient programmer used with RestoreULTRA also has a new TARGETmyStim feature that enables patients to adjust their stimulation levels according to fluctuations in pain. The RestoreULTRA neurostimulation system is currently available in Europe and is expected to be available in the United States by the end of February.
